Differential Pressure Indicators (DPIs)

Price upon request

Porvair indicators are designed and manufactured using proven robust design techniques to ensure resistance against the most severe of pressure and vibration environments.

Indication can be by means of a visual or electrical output, or a combination of both variants. Visual indication is provided by means of a red coloured pop-up button that remains in the actuated position until manually reset. Electrical outputs can be provided by flying lead or a wide variety of standard and bespoke electrical connectors.

Further to standard differential pressure indicators and dependent on specification requirements, Porvair can incorporate additional design features such as:

Thermal lockout

  • Preventing false actuations during expected high viscosity pressure conditions such as cold system start-up.

Non-reset mechanisms

  • Requiring removal of the DPI and a specific orientation in order to reset, preventing a fail-safe against.

Surge damping

  • Providing resistance against false actuations during inadvertent system pressure spikes.

Typical applications

  • Fuel
  • Lubricant
  • Hydraulic
  • Coolant
  • Pneumatic.

Features and benefits

  • Lightweight
  • Robust structure.

Glovebox Penetration Systems

Price upon request

Gloveboxes are widely used across the Nuclear industry to keep hazardous processes and materials out of contact with operators and the public at large. They are often maintained at a slight, internal negative pressure, requiring fans to create vacuum, venting to the outside world.

Porvair Filtration Group offers high strength, robust equipment to ensure that such penetrations are protected from leakage of the contents of the glovebox. We can also custom design optimised solutions for other process penetrations leading in or out of gloveboxes for both gas and liquid feeds.

In addition, the enclosed space inside a glovebox often needs ‘housekeeping' to prevent the build-up of contaminating or obscuring solids. Porvair Filtration Group are able to offer specially designed vacuum cleaners, which work inside the glovebox, to recirculate the internal atmosphere, securely and reliably collecting errant solids. We can also provide Pulsed Jet self-cleaning vacuum cleaners which not only keep the glovebox interior clean, but deliver the collected solids back to the user for disposal in the event that high levels of solids need to be removed from the working space.

Crossflow Filtration Systems

Price upon request

Porvair Filtration Group also supply custom designed high permeability crossflow systems with low throughput to pump power consumption ratios, offering a more space and cost effective solution to conventional low permeability systems.

The high-permeability of our systems allows much lower re-circulation ratios compared with alternative sintered powder, ceramic and carbon systems.

Our crossflow filter systems, used within nuclear fuel protection plants, are an integral part of the coolant circulation loop of the final polishing of uranium-based fuel pellets. Collecting the dust particles created during the grinding process, the crossflow filter system produces clean water which is fed back into the system as clean coolant.

Pulsed Jet Self Cleaning Air and Gas Filters

Price upon request

Pulse jet cleaning is a process developed by Porvair for the effective removal of collected solids from the surface of a filter element.

The process is typically undertaken whilst the filter is in operation, in situ, and apart from a very small pressure spike (or ‘overpressure'), it does not interrupt or interfere with the process flow.

The technique and its associated equipment can be designed to be used in high temperature, high solids, chemically aggressive and highly active environments, and over a wide range from vacuum condition to high pressure condition. This provides filtration down to very fine levels, with continuous operation and consistent pressure loss, allowing the accurate specification of complementary equipment around the filter.

Features and benefits

  • 100% stainless steel 316L or Hastelloy® pleated high area sintered metal fibre filter media
  • Reduced downtime for maintenance
  • Excellent cleanability
  • Optional clean in place
  • Reduced energy cost
  • Low pumping costs due to very low clean pressure drop
  • Improves product recovery and process efficiency
  • Environmental compliance benefits
  • Repeatedly steam sterilisable
  • Eliminates cross-contamination between batches and operator exposure
  • Total pharmaceutical product compatibility.

* Standard 316L or alternative metallic media e.g. Hastelloy® and FeCrAlloy are available.

Applications

  • This technique is widely used across a wide range of processes in areas as diverse as:
  • Fuel production, including fuel pellet grinding, furnace off-gas venting, powder transport and conversion oven/fluidised bed venting at temperature
  • Power generation, including spent fuel and debris vault venting and protection and spent fuel drying processes
  • Decommissioning, including mechanically generated dust collection, smoke removal, ceramic membrane crushing and cementation drum fill operations
  • Waste deposition, including vitrification and waste solidification processes, drum filling and drum venting.

The pulsed jet filtration system has a track record of success in the following applications:

HEPA Filtration

Price upon request

Porvair Filtration Group supplies true HEPA grade gas filtration, 99.97% at 0.3 microns, to meet the challenges of arduous conditions, including high temperature operation, up to 370°C in oxidising environments, chemically corrosive flows and high radioactivity situations, where conventional HEPAs would not be able to survive.

For high solids loads that would otherwise rapidly blind conventional HEPA inserts, Porvair Filtration Group supply Pulsed Jet, self-cleaning, HEPA grade systems that operate at a stabilised condition (a level of pressure loss which can be pre-determined by the user) whilst delivering the solids back to the user for disposal which would otherwise blind the filter.

Already in use in power stations in the UK and both fuel production and waste treatment facilities elsewhere, Porvair Filtration Group metal HEPA filters can be used in a wide range of varied applications. These include waste treatment and storage, post-Fukushima containment venting packages and ventilation systems, where the failure of conventional filter medium due to high differential pressure, and the presence of moisture, fire and explosion present an unacceptable risk to the public.
